Village Cinemas
Looking for Village Cinemas? You are not alone. Village Cinemas are still a strong brand name and are well recognized in NZ. In essence, Village Cinemas are now SKYCITY Cinemas. Village Cinemas still exist in other parts of the world but were ultimately acquired in NZ by SkyCity Entertainment.

A brief history:

- Force Corporation formed a joint venture partnership with Village Roadshow to run cinemas throughout NZ. The joint venture was known as Village Force.

- Village Force opened and ran many cinemas, its first being in Manukau in 1991

- In 2002 SkyCity purchased the majority of shares in Force Corporation and re-named it SkyCity Leisure.

- This resulted in a joint venture called Village SkyCity which operated all of the Village Roadshow cinemas.

- One of the highlights for Village SkyCity was the launch of Queen Street IMAX in 2003 - at the time NZ's largest screen

- In 2006 SkyCity Entertainment purchased the remainder of the shares in Village SkyCity

- By 2007 all of the Village Cinemas, Village Force Cinemas and Village SkyCity Cinemas had been re-branded as SKYCITY Cinemas.

- During the whole history, the various entities have maintained a 50% shareholding in Rialto Cinemas.
